To say Mac is an icon in the media industry is an understatement. Starting his journalism career as a News Presenter at YFM in 2002, Mac has proven his value in the industry repeatedly. Working as a sport reader at 5FM, then moving onto the SABC as an anchor which later turned into a 13-year stint at e-tv – Mac has done it all. After e-tv, Mac pursued a news anchor position at Kaya FM, which led him to his next role at Carte Blanche.
But that is not all. While Macfarlane has a stellar reputation in the media industry, he is also a thriving businessperson and thought leader. He started his business journey with Imbongi Capital, a first of its kind banking platform in SA. Mac was instrumental in the process and introduction of transactional banking in rural communities, through carefully crafted strategies. Mac’s love for education and learning saw him as one of the directors at Retsoelletse ICT – that build maths and science labs in rural areas.
Another passion project is the keep a girlchild in school campaign. Where Mac was the chairperson of the Footprints Foundation that distributes around 1,3 million sanitary pads to more than 300 000 girls across Africa – an earnest heart of gold.
While Mac is still with Carte Blanche today, he is also the CEO of ProtectedBy.AI, Mac manages a portfolio with unique technological solutions such as cybersecurity, data protection, operational improvements, supply chain management, media monitoring and evaluation, healthcare, and case management. Mac is also the CEO of Macmoleli Investment Holdings.
